DHORC is back at Donington Park over the weekend of 31Aug/01Sep for the Superstars weekend.

We are working with the Superstars Organization Manager to organise a media event during the weekend for the Superstars drivers to have a go on our slot car track again similar to last year when drivers such as Johnny Herbert and Tonio Liuzzi took part.

Part of the prize for the two winning fans will be a slot car race against the winning Superstars driver

We have our eight teams for this year’s Le Mans 24-Hour race.

Unfortunately the USA based team Miniature Auto Racing Club who came second in 2012 cannot make the event this year.

We had hoped that they would be replaced by a team from Canada however they have not been able to commit this year but have asked to have first refusal in 2014.

With the proliferation of Juniors at DHORC this year we have therefore added a DHORC Junior team to replace MARC

The Allsorts name will not be running at Le Mans this year for the first time since 2005. With Alan Bullock on long term recuperation he will not be able to race this year and therefore Allsorts co-captain Roy Masters will captain the new South Cambridgeshire HO Racing Club (SCHORC) founded by Tony Stacey. Roy has agreed that Dean Garbett from CHORC and James Mellor from DHORC will join their team

I am delighted that Phil Rees has agreed to join the main DHORC team this year

Ecurie Anglais have a new driver Alan Twiddy, replacing Paul Homewood

Sports Carazing have strengthened their team with the return of Alex Jones

Thirty Second reduce from seven to six racers

Wrun Wragged are the only team that remain the same

I am quite sure there will be a few changes to the teams between now and November however below is the current line up with 12 Rookies in this year’s event.

Our third running of the Rockingham 4-Hour endurance race in Feb’14 will have a few tweaks compared to the previous two events.

Gone are the Tyco 440X2 NASCARs to be replaced by eight authentically painted resin Porsche 917s prepared by resin guru Andy Abbott.

The chassis we will be running in 2014 will be the Tomy SRTs prepared by ace chassis technician Rob Heaton.

The final change will be to the eight lane track which will encompass all but Turn 2 of the Rockingham Oval plus an extended infield taking the track up to an estimated 300+ foot in length.

More info as we get closer to the date

Round 19 - Estoril - 13Aug13

Our 19th race of 2013 ran on the very tricky Estoril circuit which had no less than 35 six inch corners, the most of all of DHORC’s 50+ circuits.

On an evening that saw 27 starters Nick Sismey won from third on the grid to take his fifth Adult victory of the year with son Jamie Sismey finishing second from Pole Position to move into the lead of the Championship. Just four drivers can now win the Adult Championship.

Adam Hall shrugged off a jump start in the Junior ‘A’ Final, which immediately saw him lose a lap, to hunt down first time Pole sitter Peter Martin, passing him with less than 10 seconds to go.

Lucas Brooks equalled Matt Bradley’s seven Cadet ‘A’ Final wins to set up a real battle for the under tens over the last seven Club Nights.

The results on the night were as follows

Round 18 - Spa - 30Jul13

Our 18th Club Night of the year was run on the new Spa-Francorchamps circuit. Our original Spa circuit, run on 11 occasions since 1995 never really represented the high speed Ardenne circuit. Therefore Phil Rees’ remit, as well as bringing the bus stop chicane up to date was to increase the speed of the circuit. All agreed he had done a great job having produced a track that really flowed. This was backed up with both Fastest Laps being faster than the original Spa records.

Thirty racers started our 446th Club Night with Jamie Sismey taking his eighth win of the year in the Adults. However he did it the hard way having to win the ‘B’ Final first. Jamie recorded the most F1 Laps of the evening in the ‘A’ Final to take home that track record. Pole Sitter and Championship leader Lee Pateman took home the other four track records on the way to third overall.

Reigning double Junior Champion James Mellor returned after a seven meeting sabbatical due to his GCSE’s to take his third win of the year. Despite this he can no longer retain his Championship which is looking very much like it will be taken over by Jacob Pateman with only two other competitors able to beat him in 2013. Jacob also took three track records to James two.

Eight year old Zach Roythorne returned to take the Cadet win while Doug Johnson won the Adult Non-Member Final, six year old Lucas Blake the Junior Non-Member Final.

Ashley Chattle models the racer white board showing all 30 starters and which race they are in

Reigning Junior champion James Mellor seemed to have grown another six inches in height since he last attended seven meetings ago

It was great to have Cliff Roythorne (right, with yours truly) make the long trip from Bristol on Tuesday night

As was it his two sons Zach and Ben

Cartoon characters were the norm for the Junior GC cars

The results follow

The Junior Non-Member ‘A’ Final was won by our youngest racer, six year old Lucas Blake

Two of our winners Luke and Jamie Sismey (not sure the green sticker adds anything!) in front of one of the nine new DHORC A0 size posters DHORC has produced for future corporate events to entice new members!

‘C’ Final winner Jamie Lymer in front of two more DHORC posters

The Finals were Tyco F1 cars this week

The Junior ‘A’ Final came in all sizes!

There was no change to any of the three main Championships after the Spa round. Nine Members are still mathematically capable of winning the Adult Championship, their names highlighted in green. As mentioned above just three can win the Juniors

Lee Pateman and Neil Chattle now lead the Team Championship

Jacob Pateman now joins Peter Martin at the top of the DHORC Challenge table
